Rinca Island is a small island near Komodo island. It is part of Komodo National Park. The island is famous for Komodo dragons. It is one of the few places where you can spot Komodo dragons. Rinca is also populated with many other species such as wild pigs, buffalos and many birds. Rinca Island is closest to Labuan Bajo, so you do not spend too much time on the boat. The one-day tour to Rinca Island usually includes stops at one snorkeling spot and at one sandy beach before returning to Labuan Bajo. When trekking on the island you will be accompanied by a ranger to make sure you keep a safe distance from the komodo's. Treks on Rinca Island start from the ticket office at Loh Buaya. You also have the option to choose between three trails. The shortest trek takes 30 minutes. It is an easy, shaded walk that passes an artificial waterhole before ascending to a small hill with a view over the bay. The one-hour medium trek winds between dragon nests and out into the sunshine across an exposed savannah that is studded with lontar palms. For the best opportunity to see dragons and their prey, choose the two-hour trek past a permanent waterhole and across steep, exposed slopes that offer breathtaking views.
