Located 90 km north-west of Medan (about 4 - 5 hours from Kuala Namu Airport), Bukit Lawang is a small village famous for the orangutan’s rehabilitation center and as an entrance of the Gunung Leuser National Park, which has been selected by UNESCO for the high value of the biodiversity. In the primary forest reserve can be found different species of gibbons, macaques, wild elephants and tigers and many insects, butterflies, frogs and a very characteristic flora.
