What an amazing crew !!. They made our life so comfortable - and contributed so much to the shoot - we were talking amongst the crew about giving our guide a producer credit on the show that's how on it he was, and knowing of what we needed to have for a successful shoot in Irian Jaya after the first day on the job - it's hard to find that sometimes in LA.

Overall i would give your outfit a 10 out of 10, can't say enough about how well we were all taken care of and the knowledge of the area we traveled was unbelievable. Your guys turned out to be some of our best assets on the team out there.

The episode airs in november on the travel channel. I'll send you a copy of the show when we finish cutting it and there is going to be an article in the october issue of outside magazine based on the expedition - will include some of those as well

Thanks again for all of your help

You fly to Jayapura then to Dekai. Dekai a small size town in the hinterland of Papua. It takes us about 40 minutes flight. Dekai is a new developed village to a small size town, after the recent self-autonomy policy in Papua. Roads, government offices, etc are started to built. Arrival in Dekai, then check in to the small hotel in Dekai. Dekai is the home of the Manimo tribe, a tribe which is quite modern now.

Transfer by motorcycle to the small traditional harbor on Lopon village, about 1 hour of rough ride along the unpaved road. From Lopon, we will sail down to the south to Braza river, one of the largest river flowing to the south joining other river to Asmat area. All the way you will see the dense forest, peaceful surrounding, sometimes encounter the other passing by boats. On the way we may stop at the small villages which are belong to Citak Mitak tribe. This tribe built their houses on the riverside make of wood shape, with grass roof. In the past 1980’s the tribe were still naked, however, the opening of the access to their village has changed their way of clothing. Now they wear short pants, but mostly wearing no shirt. There are 2 or 3 small villages. Most of them still work as food gather, such as fishing and hunting animals. We will sail down to the south to a mid size village called Mabu. 8 - 9 hours required from this boat ride.

DAY 03 : MABU – YAMU (B,L,D).
Mabu is the home of the quite modern Koroway. Beside the Koroway, some Citak Mitak tribes also livimg here. Today, we walk to Yamu village with the local porter team. Our walk will be passing through the swampy land, crossing river, some thick forest, as well as sago forest. Birds are normally abundant on this trail. We spend about 8 hoours in the forst before we reach Yamu, the 1st village of the Stone Koroway. There is single tree house with 2 families in this village.

We have another 3 ½ hours walk this day, almost the same as the day before, we will be walking through the river bank, swamps, sago forest from Yamu to Sahufanof Baru. There is a tree house about 8 meter from the ground level, where 3 families living the moment. If we are lucky, we may meet the hunting Stone Koroway peoples on this trek. Beside as hunter and food gatherer, the local here also manage a small garden next to their house. They plant banana, bean, and sugar cane nearby.

We stay one other day here to comprehend the local life of the Stone Koroway. They spend most of their time either hunting in the forest or fishing on the swampy or river area. Sago is their main food staple, and it is thrive well on swampy land. They supplement the sago ball with some catch of the day. So you may see they eat some roasted sago ball with some fish, or gecko, or worm, or frog, else, or anything alive they found in the hunting / fishing time. We may have a good luck to see them processing the sago today. Just the same as their ancestor hundreds years ago, they use stone axe to cut the sago tree and take the rich starch under the hard bark.

The peoples of Sahufanor Baru were originated from Sahufanof Lama, but their tree house was broken, then they move to Sahufanof Baru and make a new tree house. We need 1 hours walk today. There are 2 houses with 2 families here. We spend the night with the local Stone Koroway here.

Last walk in the jungle, a 3 – 4 hours walk will lead us to Baigon village. Baigon is a modern village according to Koroway peoples. This village lies on the Siretz river bank, with about land 18 houses altogether. The houses here are no more on the trees, and they now cultivate the land alond the riverside. Banana, sugar cane, and cassava are thrive well. However, they still do hunting and fishing when no working in the garden. Some young generation already have T-shirt and short pants as the evidence of their modernity. We stay on this village today.

Walk to the riverbank, then sail up to Lokbon, a 9 hours boat ride. We will be sailing upriver through the great Sirez and Braza river. In dry season, we may need longer time, as we have to be carefully of the fallen log into the river, and sometimes, we have to assist the boatmen to move the boat when the water level is low. Arrival in Lokbon, then proceed by simple car to hotel in Dekai.
